Steps for Household Safety

Be Safe

Every three hours in the United States there is a fatality from fires within the home.

Smoke Alarms should be replaced every 10 years and be placed on each level of the dwelling. Some levels of the home require more than one smoke alarm for proper safety and fastest response times. Alarms should checked for proper working conditions weekly.

Fire Extinguishers should be easily accessible on every level of the home. Place close to all exits, kitchen, utility room and the garage. Think of placing an extinguisher in every location with a potential for fires. All extinguishers gauges should be checked for proper pressurization on a monthly basis. Be sure to select the proper type of extinguisher for the type of fire expected depending on the location.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms and Detectors should be installed on each level on the home and near to bedrooms. Test the alarm feature of all detectors weekly. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, tasteless, odorless and often referred to as the “silent killer”.
